BILL JERRY RODEN, 74, was born on June 2, 1935 in Avery, Texas and went home to his Lord on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Bill hones his boxing skills as he proudly served 6 years for his country in the National Guard. After his discharge, he began a 41 year long carrier with Texaco Oil Company retired from Computer Services-Credit Card Division in 1994. Bill enjoyed class movies, having coffee with his old buddies at the Viking Den, but more than anything spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill is preceded in death by his father, Robert Alvin "Sam" Roden, and his older brother, Robert "Bob" Roden. Ann Rodgers Kaseberg, 63, who was administrator of the department of public, non-profit management at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University for many years, died Wednesday in Evanston Hospital. John F. Rodgers, 71, died at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida following a long, fierce battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on July 16, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a graduate of Louisville Male High School. After serving two years in the US Army, he returned to Louisville where he earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Louisville. He then graduated with High Honors from the George Washington University School of Law in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded the Order of the Coif, and was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court team. Upon completion of Law School, he moved to New York city where he practiced law with the firm of Barnes, Richardson and Coburn, specializing in matters of customs, tariffs, and foreign trade.
He returned to the D.C. area, settling in Reston, Virginia where he lived with his family for 30 years. He was an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel with the Civil Aeronautics Board. Later he joined the private secotr as Director of Government Affairs of Scientific Apparatus Makers Association in Washington, DC. He then returned to government service practicing law with the Department of Commerce where he retied in 1995 completing 22 years of service for the US Government.
He moved to Vero Beach, FL in 1999 where he loved his new home and neighborhood. He was a regular at Cravings for several years enjoying the early morning coffee group. He met his group of friends every afternoon at the boardwalk for support and fellowship and rarely missed lunch at Dan's (Seaside Grill) where he loved the ambiance and visiting with his friends. He was an avid bicyclist, commuting on occasion some 20 miles one way from his home in Reston, VA to his office in DC.
A voracious reader, he had a strong interest in politics, supporting the Democratic party. He was also a lover of the Arts, most particularly the Opera and he was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Vero Beach Opera Guild.
A much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia, and three children: John T. Rodgers of Lighthouse Point, Fl, Ann Guanci of Melrose, MA, Mary Henley of South Riding, VA and five grandchildren: John R. Rodgers, Charles Rodgers, Virginia Guanci, William Guanci, Emmily Henley and one sister, Mary Schoen of Birmingham, MI. He was preceded by his sister Ann Kaseberg of Winnetka, Ill. He leaves a devoted caregiver, Tanya Hutchinson and therapist, James Lepper.
