Tom C. Short, 82, 1615 Connecticut Ave., died at 12:12 a.m. Thursday at a local nursing home where he had been a patient for 10 days.
Mr. Short was born Dec. 31, 1896, in Mountain Grove. He moved to Joplin in 1964. He retired in 1962 as a 30-year employee of the U. S. Postal Service.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Mountain Grove. He was a past president of the Missouri State Postmaster's Association, a life-time member of the American Legion, Mountain Grove Kiwanis Club and Joplin Elks Lodge No. 501.
He married Ann J. Young on Sept. 21, 1923, in Springfield, She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Joe Short, 3021 Moffet Ave., a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Bayless, Silver Spring Md., two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Sappington officiation.
The body will be taken to Mountain Grove for a 3:30 p.m. Saturday graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. James McQueen officiating.
Pallbearers will be Pat Serage, Glenn Zumwalt, John Mattes, Harvey Arnice, Ed Welch and Joe Harding.
Members of the Joplin Elks Lodge No. 501 will be seated as honorary pallbearers.

WILLIAM J. SHORT DIES AT FAGUS
Funeral services for William Jordan Short, Fagus merchant who died at his home yesterday after a short illness, will be held at 2 tomorrow afternoon at the Church of Christ in Fagus. He was 68.
He was born in Stoddard County and came to Butler Count in 1910.
He leaves his wife: Mrs. Ida Short; three daughters: Mrs. Leora Moffitt of Qulin, Mrs. Billie Diamond of St. Louis, and Mrs. Juanita Bradfield of Wichita, Kas.; a son: Fred Short of Fagus; three brothers, Edgar Short of East Alton, Ill., and Arthur and Jess Short, both of Puxico; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Phelps morturary and prepared for the burial and was returned to the family home at Fagus at 4 this afternoon.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Harbert Hooker. Burial will be in Qulin cemetery.
