Mr. Robert D. Shipe, Sr., 69, of Laytonsville, died Friday, March 17, at home. He was the husband of the late Barbara Avis Shipe.
Born Mary 4, 1925, in Olney, he was a son of the late Amos Loy and Harriet Elizabeth Eisenberg Shipe.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946. His tor of duty included the occupation of Nagasaki, Japan.
Mr. Shipe, a carpenter, worked on many restorations of buildings in Washington, D. C., such as the Landmark building and the Wasington Star building. He also assisted with the building of James III restaurant in Rockville. Mr. Shipe loved to fish, boat and garden. He was a Washington Redskins fan.
Surviving are one daughter, Gwen Frances Shipe of Baltimore; one granddaughter, Christine Rose Shipe of Gaithersburg; and one sister, Weible Hudson, of Wheaton.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road. Funeral services will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 21. Interment will be in Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville.
