Ann ROELOFSON was born on 26 July 1811 in , Henderson, KY. She died on 20 June 1852 at the age of 40 in Oregon Trail. From "Genealogy of the Rulison-Rulifson-Ruliffson Families" by Henry Flagler Rulison, Chicago, 1919, p. 174:
When in the Black Hills of Wyoming, then the territory of Nebraska, at a point in the trail about seventy miles north of the present city of Cheyenne, Ann Roelofson Scott died on June 20, 1852. She was sick but a few hours with what was known as "plains cholera." Around her lowly bed on the ground in a shelter tent where she died, were her husband and nine children, the youngestg three years and six months (William Neill Scott); the eldest, nineteen years (Mary Frances Scott Cook). Her last words were: "All is well." All was indeed well with her, but for her children, what a calamity! A grave was made for her in the soft sandstone, by chiseling out a coffin-shaped vault. She was wrapped in cerements and buried by the side of the trail, in a wilderness far from civilization, without a coffin. The next morning the oxen were yoken up and the caravan again stated westward, her husband and children with anguished hearts and fearsome glances backward to the new-made grave.
The site has also been given as 20 miles west of Ft. Laramie, Wyoming. The family looked in later years but were never able to find the grave. Parents: Lawrence ROELOFSON Jr. and Mary SMITH.
