After a long lingering down on the edge of the river, the flickering lamp light of Mrs. Lizzie Ponder of near Hampton went out on Friday morning the 4th day of May 1900. The ending of her weary pilgrimage has been anticipated for many weeks but the end has come & she is now released from all her hopless & painful suffering. Mrs. Ponder was the granddaughter of Elder W. S. Fears & a daughter of the late Lem Roan who is remembered by many. It will not be essential to this brief tribute to her memory to enter upon an extended notice of her life's career. She was born during the year 1857 & was in her 43d year at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. William Ponder in the period of her youthful womanhood. She leaves a bereft husband, 8 children & numerous relatives to lament her departure to the land beyond. From all we know of her we are not left as those who are without hope of a peaceful rest in her grave & a glorious resurrection at the appointed time. Looking out over the Berean Cemetery a newly made grave locates her last resting place, there sweetly let her sleep & when the roll call is heard up yonder she will be there waiting & watching to greet her many loved ones whom she has left behind. Hugh Robards, 80, died at the home of his son, W. J. "Buddy" Robards on North Elm street last night at 9 o'clock.
Mr. Robards suffered a heart attack two weeks ago and last night succumbed to another attack.
He was born in Pleasant Valley near Niagara in 1871.
He was a tobacconist from early manhood, having been employed by the Imperial company for more than 25 years. He was known throughout the entire community and was admired by his wide circle of friends for his loyalty in friendships and his devotion to his family.
He was a life-long member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by his son, three brothers, Otho of Henderson, Oscar of the county, and Tom of Louisville, two sisters, Mrs. Harris Slack of Morganfield and Mrs. Thomas Slack, Guthrie, a granddaughter, Mary Sue. Thomas F. Robards passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. C. Slack, at Guthrie, Ky., at 3 o'clock Saturday morning, of heart trouble. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, H. W., T. M., and O. N. Robards, of Henderson and S. O. Robards, of Niagara, Ky., Mrs. T. C. Slack, of Guthrie, Mrs. H. C. Duncan, of Niagara and Mrs. H. R. Slack of Uniontown, Ky.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning by the Masonic Lodge at the home of Mrs. R. C. Duncan at Niagara, Ky., and interment will be at the Nunn burial grounds.
