Funeral services for Mr. Raetz will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the First Baptist Church of Monroe City. Dr. Milton Baumgardner will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jude Cemetery in Monroe City. Mr. Raetz was born June 19, 1927, in Remer, Minn., to Dr. John Peter and Mildred Ellen Vanatta Raetz. he was married to Margaret Lee Timpton on Mary 17, 1953, in Monroe County. She survives. Other survivors include on daughter, Jan M. Roberts of St. Joseph; three sons, Jackie Raetz of Monroe City, Jeff Raetz of Colubmia, and Joe Raetz of Des Moines, Iowa; and eight grandchildren, Chrlies, Conor, Carly, Amy and Cason Raetz, all of Columbia, Kristin and Drew Roberts of St. Joseph, and Matt Raetz of St. Joseph. Following the war he worked for the Wade and Dawson Hardware Store in Monroe City for four years, the Burlington Railroad for three years then worked for Smitty's Market, which he later owned from 1956 until 1970. At that time he went to work for the Sears Catalog Store in Monroe City, which he operated until his retirement in 1990. He was a member, deacon, assistant Sunday school teacher and Sunday school secretary for the First Baptist Church of Monroe City. he was a long-time member and past president of the Monroe City Lions Club, past master of the Monroe City Lodge AF AM, past noble grand of the IOOF Lodge, past president of the Monroe City Business Mens Association, he served for 12 years on the Monroe City R-I School Board, serving as president and treasurer, was a member of the Monroe City Development Corporation and was past president of the Monroe City Senior Citizen Housing.
