PORTER, JR., passed away March 15, 2007 due to complications from esophageal cancer. He was born in Pueblo, CO, January 19, 1929. He entered the US Navy in 1946, retiring as a Chief Disbursing Clerk in 1966. Mr. Porter was a member of Fleet Reserve and was employed as a Senior Accountant by Pepsi Corporation until he suffered from a brain hemorrhage in 1979. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children's involvement in swimming, music and football. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was involved in Cursillo. A stroke closed one door and opened another with his involvement in the Central Florida Stroke Club, which initially provided him with emotional and physical support, resulting in his discovery that there is life after a stroke. He served in many capacities with the CFSC, including the Presidency. His love of food, music and fellowship inspired the foundation of Ed's Lunch Brunch and participation in the VOICES OF VICTORY. He traveled all over the United States with his former shipmates from the USS Atlanta. His woodcrafts were popular at all the ship reunions, as well as his tall tales of his youth. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Charlotte: children, Clark Porter of Tavares, Judi and Drew Risser of Apopka, Karen and Vic Mickunas of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Steven and Allison Mikunas; brother, Don L. Porter of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Florence Collinsworth of Casper, WY. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin L. and Florence Sapp Porter; and a sister, Joanne Porter.
