He was in his usual health and spirit Friday and entertained a number of friends but was suddenly strickened down and expired in a few moments of apoplexy. Ponder, a most estimable gentleman and worth citizen which occurred on Mon. night last after a lingering and painful illness. An amiable, genial, quiet and peaceable man, he numbered his friends by the score and though not wholly unexpected the news of his death proved a severe shock to many of his friends who had not been apprised of his critical condition. We dare say a more harmless inoffensive man never lived, the geniality of whose nature was as charming as it was irresistible and those whose privilege it was to know him intimately will mingle their tears with those of his grief stricken and bereaved family in a common sorrow for the death of one whose many admirable traits of character had so endeared him to the community. He leaves a wife and four small children who have the sincere condolences of symapthizing friends in their affliction. His remains were interred in the family burying ground on Tues. afternoon in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing spectators.
