Well Knox Riverman and a Former Hendersonian Dies in Evansville
Evansville, April 17--Captain Charles G. Perkins, 818 Riverside avenue, aged 74 years, one of the best known river men on the Ohio river, died this morning at 1 o'clock at his home. Heart trouble with which he had lingered for more than a week caused his death.
At his bedside were his four daughters who had expected the end at any time. Charles Perkins, his son, who has been on a business trip through Ohio, was notified early yesterday morning of his father's condition. He returned word that he would be home Monday morning.
The four daughters who have been constantly at his bedside during the last week are Mrs. Sadie Ball and Mrs Ella von Behren, of this city; Mrs. Beth McCormick of New York City and Mrs. Heber Ingle of Chicago. Ed Perkins, a son, of New Orleans, has been notified and will arrive today, is expected. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
Captain Perkins was one of the oldest river men in the city. Practically all his life, he had been on the river, serving on some of the largest boats plying the Ohio river.
