Shorter" Sila May Parks was born in West Point, Ill., Sept. 25, 1864. She moved to Virginia in girl-hood and was married to William Thomas Shorter April 6, 1882. To this union were born seven children, Arthur Raymond dying in Virginia at the age of four. At the age of fifteen she was converted and joined the Baptist church of Spring Creek, Prince Edward county, Virginia. In 1892, she with her husband and family, moved to Table Rock, Nebr., where she united with the Methodist church. Ever since she has lived a sincere and earnest Christian life, being a woman of quiet constant and hopeful faith. She lived and worked for the things that were worth while. She lived for her home and children. She met difficulties with faith, determination and a smile. She appreciated the church and the deep mysteries of the gospel of grace. She translated her life into the lives of her six daughters, all of whom are members of the church. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her. Mrs. Shorter quietly departed this life February 28, 1914, in full assurance of hope and eternal life, and leaves to mourn her departure a husband, six daughters, one brother, Chas. S. Parks, and a host of friends. The children are Mrs. L. E. Nickelson of Pawnee City, Mrs. Selma Cotton, Ethel, Belle, Elise and Bessie, all of Table Rock. The funeral was held from the house Monday afternoon by Revs. C. E. Ruch and Howard P. Young and the body laid to rest in the Table Rock cemetery.
