Owens, who resided in Casa Grande for 14 years and was the successful owner of a Shoe Repair Shop, died last Sunday night at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix after a brief critical illness. His wife, Mrs. Louella Owens, was at his bedside when he succumbed. He would have been 74 years old in July. A popular business man Mr. Owens was widely known as "Doc" for his skill as a veterinary. Stockmen all over the Valley brought their problems to him and found him ready to help day or night. Only in recent months had his health begun to fail, and his doctors insisted that he refrain from labors that would tax his heart. Many of his friends attended the funeral services for Mr. Owen which were held Wednesday morning at the Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Wiley Henton, the Church's pastor, and the Rev. W. W. Taylor, of Phoenix, officiated. In accord with a special request of Mr. Owens before he died, Mr. Henton sang "Only a Sinner Saved By Grace." Accompanied by Mrs. Jack Clements, Mrs. K. K. Hennes and Mrs. Fred Blakeey sang a duet, "Lead, Kindly Light." Burial took place in Mountain View Cemetery. The Cole and Maud Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Before coming to Casa Grande, Mr. Owens was one of the leading citizens of Portales, New Mexico. He was a member of the First State Board of the Baptist Convention in 1910, and also a member of the Committee which wrote the Constitution for the New Mexico Baptist Convention. His efforts were directed toward the establishment of the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, an outstanding institution. In addition to his widow, Mr. Owens is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Love Dean, of New York City, and Mrs. Phillip H. Morton, Auburn, Maine; a son, Lieutenant Charles S. Owens, now in Australia; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles Owens, who came to the funeral from Gallup, New Mexico; a brother, Willie Owens, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Mrs. F. D. SSDI He died on 30 April 1997 at the age of 67 in Colorado Springs, El Paso, CO. obituary, The Colorado Springs (CO) Gazette, May 3, 1997, pB1:2 "Symphony loses valued friend" When the Colorado Springs Symphony played Bach on Friday night, the musical legacy of cellist Gunter Johannes Paetsch was remembered. The beautiful Air on the G string was a favorite of Paetsch's, who died Wednesday at Penrose Hospial, and has become a sort of classical taps to remember orchestra members. Paetsch, who was 67, left his home in Germany and came to Colorado Springs to marry violinist Priscilla Paetsch in 1959. Priscilla, also a member of the symphony, said her husband left a prosperous career as a lawyer in Germany to become a cellist in the Colorado Springs Symphony. He played nearly 30 years and retired two seasons ago as principal cellist. A traditional musician, Paetsch was more concerned about how well the music touched people emotionally than about the technical aspects of playing, said Susan Smith, the symphony's principal cellist. "Everybody in the orchestra loved him ," said Smith. "He was very friendly, helpful and supportive of people who were in the orchestra, especially the young people." Violinist Calvin Rogers praised Paetsch for his amicable spirit. "He was just a wonderful person," Rogers said. "If there is a model of a gentleman and a musician it would be Paetsch." Paetsch also was a teacher--he was professor of the cello at Colorado College--and he passed on his gifts to his seven children, each of whom is a musician. Two of them, violinist Michaela Modjeska Paetsch Neftel and cellist Johann Sebastian Paetsch, have become renowned worldwide for their talent. Besides his wife, Neftel and Johann Sebastian Paetsch, survivors include daughters Phebe Verena Paetsch, Brigitte Paetsch Gray and sons Christian Freideman Paetsch, Engelbert Raphael Paetsch and Siegmund Amadeus Paetsch, his sister Irmgard Elisabeth Schmidt-Paetsch, and six grandchildren. A private service for family and friends will be held today at the family's home. After the symphony concert on Sunday, a short public memorial will be held in the El Paso Room of the Pikes Peak Center. Parents: Heinrich Karl PAETSCH and Helena Maria MATT.
