Margaret NICHOLS was born about 1727. She died about 1777 at the age of 50 in , Montgomery, VA. This date is I believe a guesstimate found in printer material on Samuel and Margaret Nichols Montgomery. This name has come down through various Montgomery researchers, with no further data on Margaret other than her alleged last name. It could possibly have been Nicholas, also.

Spouse: Samuel MONTGOMERY. Margaret NICHOLS and Samuel MONTGOMERY were married about 1748 in , Augusta, VA. Margaret and Samuel's marriage date is a guess based on the approximate ages of their children, found in printed materials on the family, particularly those of Dr. David Trimble: "Some Southwest Virginia Families and "Montgomery and James." It is possible they married in Lancaster co PA, but neither location for their marriage is provable. Children were: Elizabeth MONTGOMERY, Mary MONTGOMERY, James MONTGOMERY, William MONTGOMERY, Samuel MONTGOMERY, Robert C. MONTGOMERY, Nancy MONTGOMERY, Joseph MONTGOMERY, John MONTGOMERY.

DEATH OF AN AGED PIONEER
"Mrs. Evelyn Riggs Passed Away Suddenly on Sunday"
BORN IN VIRGINIA AND CAME TO OREGON IN 1850--WILL BE LAID BY SIDE OF HER HUSBAND
Mrs. Evelyn Riggs, an aged and respected resident of this city, and a pioneer of 1850, died at her home in North Salem, at 3:30 o'clock Sunday morning, February 3, 1903, after an illness of three days, aged 73 years.
Mrs. Riggs was born in the state of Virginia in 1830, and came to Oregon in 1850 with her parents. Her father, John H. Nicklin, settled on a donation claim near Salt Creek in Polk county, where the family resided for many years. In 1851, deceased was married to Rufus A. Riggs of Polk county, the union being blessed by five children, who survive the parents, as follows: Mr. J. B. Riggs, Mrs. M. M. Fleming, Mrs. T. J. Cronise, Mrs. Emma Childs, of Salem, and Dr. J. O. Riggs of Portland. The deceased also leaves a brother and sister, Dr. T. L. Nicklin, of Portland and Mrs. Emily Conygen of Pendleton. Although the deceased has not been in good health for the past three or four years, she had been feeling much better this winter than usual, but a few days ago contracted a severe cold which resulted fatally Sunday.
Mrs. Riggs was well known among the pioneers of Polk county, for it was there that the greater part of her life was spent, and her many friends will be pained to learn of her sudden demise.
The remains were taken yesterday to the Salt Creek cemetery, where the funeral services were held, and where the body will be laid to rest by the side of the husband who proceeded her many years ago. She was buried on 4 February 1903 at Salt Creek Cemetery in Dallas, Polk, OR. findagrave.com, family data and obituary copy on site data from www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~orpolk/SaltP-R.html
