A Sad Death
With deepest regret the HEADLIGHT chronicles the death of John Haynie Neblett, the fifteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Neblett, which occurred at the family residence in this city at noon last Sunday, after a brief illness with appendicitis. On Saturday, he was thought to be much improved and on the road to recovery, but a sudden change for the worse came, his death being a great shock to his mother and father, sister and brother, and a gloom of sorrow was cast over the entire town when it became known that John Neblett was dead. John Neblett was one of the brightest, politest and most manly boys in Eagle Lake, and a general favorite with the people of our town. The funeral was held Sunday evening at seven o'clock from the family residence, Rev. Mr. Morgan conducting the services. (Interment in Eagle Lake Masonic Cemetery) The floral offerings were many and beautiful. To his heart-broken parents, saddened sister and brother, the HEADLIGHT extends its sincerest sympathy in their hour of deepest sorrow. SOUTH HILL--The marriage of Miss Mary Lou Blalock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Blalock of Baskerville, and Malcolm MacDonald Neblett, son of Mrs. Susan H. Neblett and the late Charles Neblett of Kenbridge, was solemnized yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Park Forest, home of the bride.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Cullers, pastor of the bride. The home was arranged with candles, Easter lilies and other white spring flowers.
The bride and groom entered together. Her dress was of navy blue with white trimming. She wore a large cattwheel hat of navy trimmed with white, and her flowers were a bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley.
Only members of the two families and a few friends attended the wdding.
After a reception, which followed the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Neblett left for a motor trip, and upon their return will make their home in Kenbridge. Children were: William NEBLETT.

BLACKSTONE, VA. Nov. 24-Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas Everett Chambers, 50, whose death occurred Wednesday, November 20, at St. Luke's Hospital, Richmond, were conduced by the Rev. T. J. Faulkner, assisted by the Rev. M. S. Eagle, of St. Brides Episcopal Church, Norfolk, at the home of the deceased. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

Blackstone, Va. October 13--N. M. Neblett died at his residence at Blackstone at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Neblett was the youngest son of Dr. Sterling Neblett of Lunenburg, and is survived only his sister, Miss Nannie Neblett, of Lunenburg, and a large family consisting of his wife, Mrs. Fannie Mathews Neblett, and the following sons and daughters: N. F. Neblett, Brunswick; Collin Neblett, New Mexico; John L. Neblett, Monroe; William Neblett, Francis, Oklahoma; Sydney Neblett, Brunswick; Heine Neblett, Bedford City, Mrs. T. E. LT Norman MacFarland Neblett, son of Dr. Sterling Neblett and Ann Smith McFarland, was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia June 8, 1839. He enlisted Feb. 5, 1862 in Company B, 3rd Virginia Artillery (a local defense military unit where he served as a LT). The Confederate Army High Command mde this unit a regular regiment in the Army despite the members of the regiment's strong protest. Norman Neblett enlisted on July 20, 1862 in Company F, 9th Virginia Cavalry. He was captured at Boonsboro, Maryland on September 15, 1862, and was exchanged at Williamsport, Maryland on Nov. 10, 1862. He was made LT of Company F, 9th Virginia Cavalry in March 1863. Norman was captured again at Namozine Church on 3 Apr, 1865 and was held as a Prisoner of War at Johnson's Island, Sandusky, Ohio where he was released on Jun 19, 1865. PETERSBURG, VA., January 3--A quiet but beautiful wedding took place at the residence of Mr. Richard H. Mann this afternoon at half-past 5 o'clock, when Mrs. Jennie Orgain Gregory was married to Mr. Norman MacFarland Neblett, Jr. Because of the comparatively recent death of the bride's father, only members of the immediate families were present. Rev. J. B. Winn, pator of Washington Street Methodist Church, performed the ceremony, for which the parlors were tastefully decorated. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Josephine Orgain, and Mr. William Neblett, of Blackstone, brother of the groom, acted as best man. The bride is the daughter of the late Judge George C. Orgain, of Lunenburg county. The groom is a prominent citizen of Brunswick. Mr. and Mrs. Neblett left for the North on their bridal tour.

A wedding of interest here and in Southwest Virgina was solemnized quietly at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, September 5, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church when Miss Elizabeth Hester Deel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson Walter Deel of Clintwood, became the bride of Mr. Sterling Neblett, son of the late Mr. Clement Green Neblett and Mrs. Sallie Baskerville Neblett of this city and Mecklenburg County.
The Rev. Verley D. Tucker, Jr. rector of the church performed the ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Henry Edison Deel of Washington. She wore a traveling suit of King's Blue and carried a bouquet of orchids and lilies of the valley. Mr. Clement Green Neblett Jr. of Richmond was his brother's best man. The ushers were Mr. Colins Neblett of Lunenburg county, Mr. Robert D. Baskerville and Mr. Edward Hardy.
Mr. and Mrs. Neblett are now on an extensive motor trip, and will make their home after October 15 at Kinderwood, in Lunenburg County.

KENBRIDGE--The wedding of Miss Susan Hite Neblett, daughter of Mrs. Charles Donald Neblett and the late Mr. Neblett, of Kenbridge, and John Rusell Smyth, son of Mrs. Harold E. Poust and the late Victor Rodney Smyth, of Laporte, Pa., took place yesterday evening in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Frederick A. Sapp.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, William James Neblett, wore a white satin gown, made with a V neckline, outline in lace, close-fitting bodice with long sleeves gathered at the wrist from which fell a band of lace. The skirt, ending in a circular train, was gathered at the waistline, and the veil of illusion fell from a lace cap to the end of the train. She carried a prayer book with white orchids and bouvardia.
Mrs. Arthur Earl Taylor was her sister's matron of honor, and Miss Suzann Smyth, sister of the groom, was maid of honor. They were gowned alike in white taffeta with matching hats, and carried bouquets of red roses and gypsophila.
Clair W. Link, of Lanaster, Pa., was the best man. The ushers were Malcolm M. Neblett and Charles D. Neblett, brothers of the bride.
A reception followed the ceremony at the Lunenburg Country Club.
After a Canadian wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Smyth will make their home in Laporte. Children were: John Lough SMYTH, Sidney Malcolm SMYTH, Sterling Macfarland SMYTH.

MR. S.S. NEBLETT DIED ON LAST FRIDAY NIGHT
Mr. Sidney Smith Neblett, one of Eagle Lake's most loved citizens, died at his home in this city at half past eleven o'clock on Friday night, after an illness of several weeks, aged 68 years.
Mr. Neblett was a member of a prominent Virginia family. He was born at "Kinderwood" in Lunenberg county, Virginia, and educated at the Washington & Lee University, where he stood at the head of his classes. He moved to Texas twenty years ago. He has been in poor health for a number of years.
At the age of twenty-one Mr. Neblett was treasurer of Lunenburg county, in Virginia. He lived in Richmond, Virginia, for eighteen years, and was a successful lumber merchant in that city.
Mr. Neblett's death is sincerely regretted by all of the people of this community, for a better man than he has never lived among us. He was a gentleman of the old school--intellectual, polished, refined--a man whom it was always a pleasure to be with. He was polite and courteous to everyone and during his twenty years among us, he is a man that we have never one time heard ill spoken of.
He leaves two brothers and two sisters, Walter C. and Charles Neblett and Mrs. T. W. Wood, of Richmond, Virginia, and Mrs. Nat Matthews of Kenbridge, Virginia. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife and two children, Douglas M. Neblett of this city and Mrs. T. L. Smith of Houston, and four grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted from the family home, Rev. A. J. G. Banks of the Episcopal church, officiating, at half past three o'clock Saturday afternoon, interment being made in the Masonic cemetery.

Uner the firm name of McAdoo & Neblett, William H. Neblett, a native of Lunenburg County, and widely known in Richmond, has begun the practice of law with William G. McAdoo, former Secretary of the Treasury and Director General of Railroads in the Wilson administration, according to announcement her yesterday. The offices of the firm have been established in the Bank of Italy Building, Los Angeles, Cal. McAdoo & Neblett will handle the general practice of law.
Mr. Neblett, know in his youth as "Flit" Neblett, entered William and Mary College in the fall of 1908, graduating in 1912 with a reputation as a faithful and diligent student. Hard work has characterized his every endeavor and his ability to throw his best talent into every effort won for him a place on the football team during his last year at the institution. From William and Mary, "Flit" Neblett went to Washington and Lee, where he graduated in 1914, and incidentally won hors there also in football.
After the practice of law for some time in New Mexico, he entered military service when the United States launched its forces into the World War. He became an officer, serving with some distinction overseas and resumed the practice of law in the Ar West on being mustered out. Mr. Neblett is a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. His progress in the legal world in recent years has been brilliant and he is recognized today as one of the leading attorneys of the United States. In association with Mr. McAdoo he will undoubtedly figure conspicuously in law.
