Johnie MURPHY was born about 1876 in , Adair, MO. Parents: Thomas J. MURPHY and Kesey MURPHY.

Joseph MURPHY was born about 1764 in , Halifax, VA. He died unknown. It's possible that Joseph was the male age 70--79 living in the household of his daughter, Keziah and son-in-law, Thomas Chamberlain, in the 1840 Madison co TN census. There were three men named Joseph Murphy/Murphey, one was the son of Joseph Murphy, one was the son of his brother, William, both were Baptists ministers and one was the son of Richard Murphy (allegedly a brother of the two ministers) and Keziah Terry. The son of the Senior Joseph Murphy is listed with all three marriages in Surry co NC, but this is not correct.
A son of Nathaniel Terry, Jr. Joseph Royall Terry,. refers to "Old Joseph Murphy" as being a kinsman, living near them in Todd co KY, but haven't been able to prove this. During the law suit over his mother's slaves, inherited from her father, Benjamin Terry, Joseph gave a deposition and was living in White co TN in 1811. Joseph was a witness on a deed in White co TN on 1 Feb 1815, White co DB F/22; A piece of land that Elizabeth Murphy Scritchfield, daughter of Joseph Murphy and Prudence Chamberlain, was taxed with in MO was patented by Joseph Murphy.
