PEORIA- On Dec. 4, 2006, Bettye Jeanne Murphy Leunig, 82, of Peoria, co-founder of the House of Prayer in Lantana, Fla., passed away in Peoria.
She made a peaceful transition to the other side in the company of her angels, loved ones, and family gathered around her at the time of her passing.
She was born July 26, 1924, to Alfred and Bettie Dunn Murphy. She married Jeremiah Leunig on March 28, 1945, in Belleville, Ill. He preceded her in death Sep. 13, 1997, in Peoria.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki L. (York) Phillips of Brunswick, Ga.; her son, Douglas K. (Eileen) Leunig of Peoria; grandchildren, Amy E. and Jeffrey D. (Jennifer) Phillips; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was one brother.
Bettye's understanding of God, Christ and the Holy Spirit was her lifelong passion which she lived constantly. She helped scores of people find their spiritual centers and taught them to be guided in their daily lives by listening to God through prayer.
There will be a memorial service in the spring when her friends from all over the county can meet at her garden sanctuary to share stories of how Bettye touched their lives and made a difference. Anyone desiring to attend should contact family members to obtain details of time and location.
