James B. McNairy, 42, plant layout engineer killed in Monday's tragic blast at Douglas Air Craft Co.'s Bell plant, was well known in Van Nuys and the Valley in the early twenties, when his family resided here and was prominent in civic and church circles.
McNairy was one of four men who died in the explosion of a curing oven being assembled at the Douglas branch plant. His first affiliation with the firm was in 1934. Married to the former Jane Cotton, of a well-known Santa Monica family, he was the father of a 12-year old son, James Druex. The family resides at 224 N. Bowling Green Way, Brentwood.
Born in Minnesota, McNairy had come to California when his family moved here in 1919. In addition to his widow and son, the aircraft executive is survived by his mother, Mrs. By Y. McNairy of 2151 Montana Ave., Santa Monica; two brothers, Frederick M. of the same address, and Louis N. of 1000 Iliff St. Pacific Palisades, and a sister, Mrs. Howard Wilson of Beverly Hills.
