Berniece M. Knight, 64, of Joplin died at 4:38 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Freeman West Hospital. She had been in ill health three weeks.
She was born Dec. 16, 1933, in McCune to Fred and Mary (Fowler) McMillan. She was a graduate of McCune High School.
Mrs. Knight had worked for the Parsons State Hospital and Training Ceneter from 1951 until 1986. At the time of her retirement, she was secretary to the superintendent.
She moved to Joplin in 1989 and had been associated with the Freeman Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop since.
She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and the Freeman Hospital Auxiliary.
She married Jerome L. Knight June 13, 1969. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Rodney Long of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter Jennifer Edison of Wichita; two stepsons, Wayne Knight of Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii, and Glen Kelly of Wilmington, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Selina Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., and Stephanie Machado of Kapaa, Kuai, Hawai; a brother, Fred McMillan of Broken Arrow Okla.; four sisters, Lois Blake, Betty Ruth McMillan, both of Parsons, Bernieta Fincher of Pittsburg and Maxine Long of McCune; and 17 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, Lawrence McMillan, and a sister, Doris Sexton Roach.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary Church with the Rev. Damian Boeding officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at the McCune Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary of Joplin. Parents: Fred William MCMILLAN and Mary Elsie FOWLER.

Charles McMillan, subject of this sketch was born at Burning Springs, Wirt county, August 8, 1863, being at the time of his death 73 years, 10 months and 19 days old. He was the son of Jordan and Bathsheba (Knox) McMillan. They moved to Roane county when he was a boy. The remainder of his life was spent near the old home place where he owned and operated a farm. He was converted and united with the Otto A. C. Church about 19 years ago of which he was a member at the time of his death. Death followed an illness of almost six years due to high blood pressure, heart and kidney trouble. He bore his suffering with patience.
He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Chapman who survives. To this union ten children were born. Those surviving are J. M. McMillan of Marlington, D. G .McMillan of Glendale, Arizona, W. J. McMillan at home, daughters, Mrs. R. M. Keffer of Lawndale, Calif., Miss Eupha McMillan at home, Mrs. Ruby Bissel, Mrs. Sylvia Keffer, Mrs. Orpha Sarver and Mrs. Bergie Boggs all of Roane county.
One son, Hertsel proceeded him in death three years ago. He also leaves nineteen grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters to mourn their loss: William McMillan, Glendale, Arizona; James and Walter McMillan of Otto; Mrs. Ida Thompson of Parkersburg and Mrs. Ollie Chambers of Oklahoma. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the Otto Church with Rev. Herbert Spencer and Rev. R. H. Kennedy in charge. Service at the grave were in charge of the Linden lodge No. 83 A. F. and A. M. of which he was a member. He was laid to rest in the Otto cemetery to await the Resurrection Morn.
In the death of this man we have lost a kind and considerate father, a good neighbor and a friend to all.

Gerald L. McMillan, 73, of rural Parsons died at 11:52 p.m. Sunday, Dec, 8, 2002, in the emergency room of the Labette County Medical Center. He had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected.
He was born Feb. 23, 1929 in Galesburg to Warren L. and Nora E. (Lowe) McMillan. He grew up in rural Parsons and Galesburg areas and attended the Centerville School and Galesburg schools. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1948. He lived and farmed in the rural Parsons and Galesburg areas all of his life.
He enjoyed feeding squirrels and birds, taking walks with his dogs, gardening, studying the history of World War II and collecting John Deere memorabilia.
He married Bonnie L. Hoffman on Aug. 11, 1950. They were divorced.
He married Cora L. Neagle on Sept. 2, 1982, in Nashville, Tenn. She survives of the home.

McMillan and Larry McMillan, both of Parsons; and three sisters, Betty R. McMillan of Parsons, Sharon Trout of Chanute and Janiece Dwyer of Seattle.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Tracy McMillan and a grandson, Eric Neely.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with the Rev. John Schaich officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
