McCarty, an employee of the Mengel company, of Louisville is believe to have died from gas heater fumes. The Assoicated Press said that Deputy Corner, M. Rodger Doherty expressed belief that McCarty's death was accidental. Mrs. Ethel Piland, at whole home McCarty roomed, said he had complained of a cold, and she disovered his body sometime later. Detecting gas fumes, Mrs. Piland said she investigated. In Newport, Mrs. Bare organized the International Club for Women and the first United Congregational Church fair, and was a leader in church women's work. She was a member of Newport Chapter, American Assn. of University Women. During her husband's earlier pastorate in Concord, N. H. she organized the Green Apples Writers Club and was active in the Players Guild. While he was pastor in Calcutta, India, she became interested in the worldwide literacy campaign of Dr. Frank C. Laubach, and helped to organize classes for teaching reading by his single picture chart method. She continued her interest in the ecumenical church movement after returning to this country, and has worked to promote a world outlook among local groups.
