His family ended up in Montgomery County, Kentucky where he stayed until 1850. The Jouetts of Kentucky were quite an impressive family with the Grandfather of Charles Jouett being a famous Revolutionary War hero, former Virginia legislator, former Kentucky legislator, and prominent business man who impored livestock. Another famous member of the family was the famous painter, Matthew Harris Jouett, an uncle to Charles. Matthew Harris Jouett was the first Jouett to visit the State of Louisiana. Most of Charles Jouett's family was involved in his father's business which was obviously very successful. They took part in merchant styles of business, importing and exporting various goods, and were well educated as some of the family were clerks and bookkeepers. Charles Edward Jouett came to the Rapides Parish area of Louisian in the very early 1850s. He had a great deal of extended family and associates in this location which included the following families: Robards Family, Cocke Family, and Brown Family. He met and married his wife, Theresa Ruddock in 1852 in Rapides Parish. Theresa had come from England in the 1840s with the Bailey side of her family. According to family accounts, she stayed with her Uncle, Walter Frank Baily for quite sometime, until eventually moving into the houehold of William Prince Ford sometime around 1850. William Prince Ford was a large plantation owner, a well respected minister, and was also responsible for starting an academy of higher education in the area. Charles and family were closely associated with William P. Ford and this is how he met his wife. After Charles and Theresa married, one can use various census reports to confirm that he and his family lived on the plantation owned by William Prince Ford which was very common during this time period. Charles Jouett was a very talented man who has been documented as a clerk, a bookkeeper, a carpenter, a cooper, and a farmer. Being part of plantantion life was hot it all started for Charles Edward Jouett in Louisiana. he met his wife there, started his family there, had other family there, and without question had an obvious stake in the well being of plantation life. Kleber, KY Bicentennial Commission, University of Kentucky Press, Lexington, KY, 1992 JAMES E. JOUETT, naval officer, was born February 7, 1826, near Lexington, Kentucky, the son of portrait artist Matthew Harris and Margaret Henderson (Allen) Jouett. Young Jouett, who entered naval service as a midshipman in 1841, had a long and varied career. He saw blockade duty in the Mexican War and was on one of the ships that accompanied Commodore Matthew Perry's expedition to Japan in the 1850s. During the Civil War, his exploits incuded the capture of several blockade runners and command of the fast gun-boat Metacomet under David G. Farragut at Mobile Bay. After the war Jouett held several shore assignments; at sea his highest post was command of the North Atlantic Squadron from 1884 to 1886. He was promoted to captain in 1874, commodore in 1883, and rear admiral in 1886. Jouett retired in 1890. In 1852 Jouett married Galena Stockett and they had one son, James Stockett. Jouett died September 30, 1902, at a coutry home in Maryland and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. 1880 census, Washington, District of Columbia, p210A, ED54, Roll 123, 1325 F Street, N.W. 120/133 Cornelia J. John "Jack" JOUETT was born on 7 December 1754 in Charlottesville, Albemarle, VA. He died on 1 March 1822 at the age of 67 in , Bath, KY. He was buried on 1 March 1822 at Tanyard Cemetery in ,Bath, KY. Jack Jouett was said to have been an imposing figure, 6'4" weighing about 200 pounds. He's considered the "Paul Revere of the South." On the night of June 3rd, 17891, he spotted the British troops under LTC Banistre Tarleton and rightly guess they were on their way to try and capture the VA legislature and Governor Thomas Jefferson. The legislature was meeting in Charlottesville and the Governor was at his home, Monticello. Daniel Boone was serving in the VA Legislature at the time. "Jack" Jouett rode all night to warn them, and carried the scars the rest of his life on his face, from the tree limbs, etc. he encountered riding in the dark. The Legislature passed a resolution on June 15, to honor John "Jack" Jouett. They resolved to give him a pair of pistols and a sword. He received the pistols in 1783, but it took 20 years before he got the promised sword. In 1782, he moved to what is now Kentucky. He settled in Mercer co, served in the VA legislature and after KY became a state, served in the KY legislature from Mercer co. He died at his daughter's house in Bath county, KY.
