He was a Jamestown florist 20 years before retiring in 1973. Prior to that, he operated a grocery in the Grape Grove community.
A Fayette County native, he was born May 3, 1905, the son of Alva and Ardella Torbett Ary. he was a meber of the Grave Grove Church of Christ.

CHARLES H. ASHER, SR., 91, of Louisville, died Thursday at The Forum at Brookside, where he resided for the past 10 years. He was a native of Pineville, KY, and a retired engineer after 26 years with American Standard. Mr. Asher was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as a deacon and elder. He served over 40 years on the board of directors of his family's company, Asher Land & Mineral Limited, retiring in July of 2004. He is survived by two daughters, Jane A. Coomer ( Stephen) and Mary A. Yarmuth (William); a son, Charles H. Asher, Jr. (Paula), six grandchildren, Jeffrey Rasco, Betsy Coomer, Michael Rasco, Christopher Coomer, Jonathan Asher and Jacob Yarmuth; four great-grandchildren, Tawny Nutter, Jackson Rasco, Savannah Rasco and Stephanie Rasco, and one sister, Jean Asher Pomeroy. The family would like to recognize and thank the many friends and staff at The Forum. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2004, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Vicitation will be from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
