"Mrs Jesse Higbee of Muldraugh in Meade co., poisoned 4 of her children and tried it on herself and her husband, was judged insane. She was a native of Louisville. First murder occurred October 14 and the others followed at intervals of 2 weeks. The mother is 23 years old and the mother of 5 children, the oldest of which was 8 years old. On October 14, Mr. Higbee was awakened by the youngest child, no quite a year old. First victim died after 30 hours of suffering. The doctor said it died of cerebral trouble. On Oct 26, another child , 2 years old, died after 30 hours of illness. Cause of death was given as cerebro-spinal meningitis. On November 13, the 3rd child died at age 4 years. Also thought to be cerebro-spinal meningitis. A 4th child died later. Then she tried later killing herself and her husband."
Same issue "Julia Higbee, wife of Jesse Higbee, lives at Tip Top, Meade Co. Had five girls, ages 8 years, 6 years, 4 years, 3 years and 14 months old. Yountest died October 14, next to oldest died October 26. The next to the youngest died November 11. After the death of the 4th child, an autopsy on the two previous children who died was preformed. It showed they died of arsenic. Report was done by Dr. Lewis.
