History and Families, Oldham County, KY: the first century, 1824-1924, by Oldham County Historical Society, republished Turner Pub. CO, Paducah, KY, 1996
Albert W. Hardin, a fine stock breeder in Oldham County, was born where he now resides, June 21, 1830, the third of five children born to William A. and Sarah (Trigg) Hardin. William A. Hardin was a son of Harry Hardin of Virginia who came to Kentucky at an early date and settled where our subject now resides. He was brought up on the farm and received a common school education. He chose farming in early life and has since followed it where he now resides and owns 450 acres of fine land.
Of late years he has devoted considerable attention to the breeding and developing of fine stock. "Exchequer" died on his farm, the only thoroughbred living or dead with two in the 30 list; Hetzel's Hambletonian, full brother to "Volunteer" and "Sentinel" is also buried on his farm.
In 1854 he was united in marriage with Adelia M. Young, a daughter of Richard Young of Shelby County. To this union was born one child, Richard Y. Mrs. Hardin lived only a short time and our subject next married Julia A. Young, a sister of his first wife, who also died shortly after. He married for his third wife, Ophelia Arterburn, a daughter of Norbourn Arterburn of Jefferson County. To this union were born four daughters and three sons, Sallie, Annie, William A., Albert V., Norbourn and two infants. Mr. Hardin is a Master Mason. Politically he is a Democrat.
