Born in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of W. B. Caldwell, Jr., who survives and the late Elizabeth Ann Matthews Caldwell. she was the wife of Mr. Charles R. Southard, of the home. Mrs. Southard was the Secretary/Treasurer of Elon Elementary School. she attended St. Marks Reformed Church.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at St. Marks Reformed Church. The Rev. Robert M. Disher will officiate. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Survivors are husband, Mr. Charles R. Southard of the home; daughters, Ms. Jennifer Southard, of Burlington, Mrs. Katherine S. Conner, of Durham, Ms. Pamela Southard, of Burlington; father & stepmother, Mr. W. B. William Caldwell--Mr. Caldwell, 88, of Charlotte died peacefully at Presbyterian Hospital on Friday, November 3, 2006.
He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and served in World War II with the US Marine Corps as a Japanese translator stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth M. Caldwell and daughters Beverly Southard and Barbara Caldwell.
He was a devoted husband to Delores P. Caldwell, and a beloved father to his children, Grant Caldwell, Bonnie Hovey, William Caldwell II, Beth Caldwell, Gary Peabody and Sally Hutchison.
Also surviving are his 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Thursday, November 9th from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd. Charlotte. A graveside service will take place on Friday at 1:00 PM at Evergreen City Cemetery with Reverend Don Lisk officiating.

After an Illness of Two Weeks at her Home on Plum Street
Monday evening, at 10 o'clock, Mrs. John Edwards, aged forty-four, after an illness of two weeks, died at her home, on Plum street. She was the wife of Mr. John Edwards, foreman of the street department, who, with three children, Roy, Nannie and Maggie, survive her decease. Her sister, Mrs. John Heid, and four brothers also survive.

Mrs. N. E. Ferguson Is Taken by Death
Mrs. Nannie E. Ferguson died at 3:45 o'clock, Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Favor, 1419 O'Byrne street.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Favor, Mrs. Eugene Oldham, Spottsville, and Mrs. Edward Brody, Henshaw; four sons, Jeff and Henry, Spottsville; Horace, Henderson, and Robert, Dixie, and 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Bennett Memorial church, the Rev. L. F. Southern officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Poole.
She was buried on 28 April 1935 at Shady Grove Cemtery in Poole, Henderson, KY. Nannie was also given two other maiden names by her son, Jeff, that of Kavanaugh and Simpson, on his marriage license application to his 2nd wife, and on the information he gave to the Henderson Health Dept when she died. The surname Callender is from her death certificate, information given by her daughter, Elizabeth. Parents: John CALLENDER and Joe Ann SIMPSON.
